Olivier Castel has chosen to screen Badlands, the Terrence Malick film from 1973. Badlands are areas of arid landscape found in the Midwestern United States, around South Dakota and Montana, where the film is set. The film will be projected onto the building on the other side of the street, and will be watched through the windows.
In parallel to Malick's film, Castel has chosen a work by Philippe Parreno, Smell of the Moon: a candle which sits on the windowsill and gives off the scent of the moon as it burns. Moon and Stars watermelon will be served during the exhibition. This variety of watermelon is native to the Midwestern state of Missouri and is named after its dark green skin speckled with tiny, bright yellow dots and large round spots.
An oversized list of works reveals another five names that Castel has created to author his projects. Many of the works, like the film and the soundtrack, are located outside of the gallery space, extending the exhibition and leaving the inside almost empty. This allows for the layering of multiple works, producing an exhibition not of objects but of names.
