TUESDAY 9TH DECEMBER: 8PM
RICHARD JOHN JONES
WITH
ORSON WELLES'
F FOR FAKE
85 MINS.
Jones will screen F for Fake, a film that presents itself as a documentary about fakery but ends with an admission from the director: "I did promise that for one hour, I'd tell you only the truth. That hour, ladies and gentlemen, is over. For the past seventeen minutes, I've been lying my head off. "Yet throughout nothing is reliable, expertise, validity and performativity all becoming scrutinized through the lens of Welles' camera.
The first installment of a documentary film, Looking For Headless, a collaborative project with Kate Cooper, will also be screened. Looking For Headless documents a search to uncover the offshore company Headless Ltd. through interviews with "certain expert practitioners". The film explores an authoritative tone yet negates any representation of truth by revealing a parallel search for the same company by a novelist in Spain that, in a similar way to offshore, collapses fiction and reality.
Jones will also exhibit a new version of his pamphlet aimed at collating pieces of writing and design that are to do with the problem of the representation of longitudinal artistic practices in contemporary exhibition making. New Display Strategies: rich masterplans that can sustain complex and successful institutions, was originally produced with Carlos Monleon Gendall and Josh Love for the exhibition The Steve Guttenberg Galaxy (17 Gallery) and shown in a parallel installation at the John Jones Project Space.
